Sculptra

Collagen, naturally renewed

Swiss Aesthetics

What are the benefits of Sculptra?

  • Stimulates collagen production – encourages your skin to gradually rebuild its own collagen.

  • Restores lost facial volume – can help address age-related volume loss in areas such as the cheeks and temples.

  • Improves skin firmness and texture – increased collagen can contribute to smoother, firmer-looking skin.

  • Natural-looking results – improvements develop gradually, helping to maintain your existing facial character.

  • Long-lasting results – the effects can develop and persist over an extended period as collagen production continues.

  • Minimal downtime – most people can return to their usual activities shortly after treatment, although temporary swelling, redness or bruising can occur.

  • Gradual rejuvenation – rather than simply adding volume, Sculptra focuses on supporting the skin’s underlying structure over time.

Sculptra Massage: The 5-5-5 Technique

Massage is an important part of your Sculptra aftercare. Your practitioner may recommend the 5-5-5 technique to help distribute the product evenly within the treated area.

5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days.

Using clean hands, gently massage the treated areas with firm but comfortable circular motions for approximately 5 minutes. Repeat this 5 times throughout the day for the first 5 days following your treatment.

The massage should feel comfortable and should not cause significant pain or excessive pressure. If you experience unusual or increasing pain, marked swelling, significant redness or any other concerning symptoms, stop massaging the area and contact your treating practitioner for advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

Sculptra works by stimulating your skin’s natural collagen production. Its active ingredient, poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), is gradually absorbed while encouraging the skin to rebuild collagen within the treated areas. As collagen develops over time, it can help restore lost volume, improve firmness and enhance overall skin quality, creating a gradual and natural-looking rejuvenation.

Is Sculptra safe?

Sculptra has been used for many years and is generally considered safe when administered by a suitably qualified and experienced healthcare professional. As with any injectable treatment, there can be temporary side effects such as swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising. A thorough consultation is important to assess your suitability, discuss potential risks and ensure the treatment is appropriate for you.

Is Sculptra treatment painful?

Sculptra treatment is generally well tolerated, with most patients describing the sensation as mild discomfort rather than significant pain. A local anaesthetic may be used to help make the treatment more comfortable, and you may experience some mild tenderness, swelling or sensitivity afterwards. Your practitioner will take steps to ensure you are as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure.

Who should avoid the Sculptra treatment?

Sculptra may not be suitable for everyone. Treatment should generally be avoided or postponed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area, or have a known allergy to any of the product’s ingredients. People with certain medical conditions or a history of severe allergic reactions should discuss their medical history and medications with their practitioner before treatment. A thorough consultation is essential to determine whether Sculptra is appropriate and safe for you.

What are the side effects of Sculptra procedures?

Sculptra is generally well tolerated, but as with any injectable treatment, some temporary side effects can occur. Common effects include swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, itching and mild discomfort around the injection sites. These usually settle within a few days. Small lumps or nodules may occasionally develop and should be monitored by your practitioner. More serious or persistent reactions are uncommon, but it is important to follow your aftercare instructions and contact your practitioner if you experience unusual, worsening or persistent symptoms.

When will I see results from the Sculptra treatment?

Sculptra results develop gradually rather than immediately. As the treatment stimulates your skin’s natural collagen production, you may begin to notice subtle improvements within a few weeks, with more visible results developing over the following 2–3 months. Your skin may appear firmer, smoother and more refreshed as collagen continues to build. Results vary from person to person and can continue to improve over several months following treatment.

How often should I get Sculptra treatments?

Sculptra is typically performed as a course of treatments, with sessions spaced several weeks apart to allow the skin to gradually produce new collagen. Many patients may have 3-4 treatment sessions, for optimum results although the number and timing will depend on your individual needs, treatment area and desired results. Once your initial results have developed, maintenance treatments may be recommended periodically to help support your results as collagen naturally declines with age.

What is the recovery time after Sculptra procedures?

Sculptra requires minimal downtime, and most people can return to their normal daily activities immediately after treatment. Mild redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising around the injection sites is common and typically settles within a few days. Some patients may experience swelling for slightly longer.

Can Sculptra be combined with other aesthetic procedures?

Yes, Sculptra can be incorporated into a personalised aesthetic treatment plan alongside other treatments, depending on your individual needs and goals. For example, it may be combined with dermal fillers to restore specific areas of volume, anti-wrinkle treatments to soften the appearance of dynamic lines, or skin rejuvenation treatments such as microneedling, chemical peels or certain energy-based treatments to improve skin texture and quality.

Are the results of Sculptra permanent?

Sculptra results are long-lasting but not permanent. The treatment stimulates your body’s natural collagen production, so improvements develop gradually and can be maintained for an extended period. As collagen naturally breaks down with age, the effects will gradually diminish over time. Depending on your individual response and treatment goals, your practitioner may recommend maintenance sessions to help support your results and maintain a refreshed, natural-looking appearance.
